‘Barcelona target has become unsettled at Liverpool’- John Aldridge

Reds legend John Aldridge has stated that rumored FC Barcelona target Gini Wijnaldum has become unsettled at Anfield amid speculation linking the midfielder with a move to Camp Nou this summer.

The Dutch international has become the main target for Barca in the ongoing transfer window. However, Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp has time and again been reluctant to go into detail regarding a prospective transfer for the 29-year old midfielder to the La Liga giants.

And Aldridge, a former favorite among the Reds’ supporters due to his attacking exploits for the club in the 1980s, believes that Wijnaldum’s performances on the pitch have been affected by the constant speculation surrounding his future at the Anfield giants beyond this summer.

“Normally you rarely see him lose a ball, but that happened a few times in the first half against Arsenal (in the Community Shield). That could possibly be caused by the lack of clarity about his future.

The former Liverpool FC striker also called upon Jurgen Klopp to resolve the present situation as soon as possible to ensure that the player’s future is crystal clear ahead of the upcoming season.

“Jürgen Klopp will want this situation resolved quickly, because players who are uncertain about their futures can take that into games. Liverpool cannot afford to have this become a major issue towards the October 5 transfer deadline.”

“There is a lot of talk about how Thiago (Alcantara, Bayern Munich) should replace Wijnaldum in the Liverpool team and there are rumours that he has been picked up by Koeman, the new Barcelona coach.
