‘We want to be serial winners’- Liverpool star speaks out on further trophy-winning success

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain insists Liverpool FC head into the 2020-21 Premier League campaign having forgotten about last season’s title-winning triumph.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were the most dominant of forces across England’s top-flight division in the 2019-20 season, and clinched the Premier League title with seven games to spare, setting a new domestic record in the process.

However, Chamberlain has voiced his side’s aim of establishing their credentials as a serial title-winning outfit in the new season of football as well, with the Premier League trophy being up for grabs once again.

“It was amazing, but it’s done now,” the ex-Arsenal man told Goal.

“We can look back on it later, but we can’t get caught up in it now. Why did we achieve what we did? Because we didn’t lose our focus. It was always about ‘what’s next?’ and that’s how it is now.

Similar to the legendary Liverpool FC side of the 1970s and 1980s, the present squad as well is looking forward to winning trophies year after year, expressed the English international.

“It’s one thing to win something once, and we shouldn’t downplay that, but to do it consistently, season on season, is what makes a team special.

“Look at the greatest teams in history, the Liverpool teams of old who have made this club what it is, they did it every year, not just once. That’s our main goal.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have enjoyed considerable success in their trophy-winning endeavours of late, with a Champions League victory in June last year being followed by triumphs in the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and finally the Premier League title which had evaded the grasp of the Merseyside giants for 30 years.
