A massive fan-favourite during his days in the Liverpool FC shirt, Fernando Torres has backed his former side to further their domination over English top-flight football in the years to come.
The ex-Spanish international voiced his admiration for the Reds’ superb displays on the pitch across the 2019-20 season, one which saw Jurgen Klopp’s men end a 30-year wait for Premier League title-winning glory and end the campaign with a record total of 99 points.
Torres added that the ardent supporters of the Merseyside giants deserve to rejoice at the success coming Liverpool FC’s path of late, having been on the receiving end of a quite a few miserable years in search of the coveted league title.
“I’m so happy Liverpool won the Premier League because they deserved it.
“I was especially happy for the supporters; I know how important it was for them to win the Premier League.
“Even when they won the Champions League the season before, obviously that’s a huge achievement, but once you play for Liverpool and are in contact with the people, you know how important it was for them to win the Premier League back.
The former Reds’ No.9, moreover, threw his weight behind Liverpool FC as the favourites to defend their Premier League crown in the 2020-21 season, despite the likes of Chelsea, another ex-club of the Spaniard’s, and Manchester City being much more resourceful in this summer’s transfer window.
“I think Liverpool will still be stronger than Man City or Chelsea.
Torres was a sensation in the Premier League since arriving at Anfield from Atletico Madrid in 2007. He scored 81 goals in 142 competitive appearances for Liverpool FC and was at the peak of his goalscoring prowess during his time at the Merseyside outfit, before ultimately sealing a move to Chelsea in the winter transfer window of 2011.
