AC Milan could lose Liverpool target Ismael Bennacer this summer

According to a report from Football Italia, Liverpool could get their hands on AC Milan star Ismael Bennacer in the 2023 summer transfer window.

The 24-year-old has been a vital player for AC Milan and the Reds are considering him to bolster their midfield at the end of the year.

It goes without saying that Liverpool will need to upgrade their midfield options if they want to compete for trophies.

James Milner and Jordan Henderson have just reached their peak. Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara, meanwhile, have a history of injuries. Curtis Jones is still a young player and isn’t yet ready to play frequently at the highest level. Additionally, Arthur Melo is a loan signing who will return to his original team, Juventus, at the end of the season.

Liverpool’s current focus for strengthening is the central midfield. It will be intriguing to see if they can do so in the upcoming transfer window.

According to the source, Jude Bellingham is still Jurgen Klopp’s top target. If the Reds are unable to recruit the England international, Bennacer is an alternative. Youri Tielemans and Marcelo Brozovic are also on Liverpool’s radar.

Bennacer might be available for a lower cost, although Bellingham is expected to demand a club-record fee. The AC Milan star is reportedly worth €33 million and he would be the cheapest option among others.

The Algerian star has shown his worth in Serie A and the chance to sign with a Premier League team would be an alluring one for the midfielder.

Bennacer will provide some stability to Liverpool’s midfield and he could be the perfect double pivot partner for Fabinho due to his defensive skills.

The 24-year-old still has a lot of time to grow and develop. Working under a manager like Klopp might enable him to reach his full potential. It will be intriguing to see if Liverpool is prepared to show their interest and make a firm bid.
