Adam Lallana reveals he had transfer talks with Jurgen Klopp last year

Adam Lallana, the England international who signed for Brighton this summer after a long stint in the Liverpool FC shirt, revealed in a recent interview to BBC Radio 5 that Jurgen Klopp had told him to be on the lookout for a new club last year in October.

The ex-Southampton playmaker joined Graham Potter’s side on a free transfer after seeing out his deal with the Reds, one which he had signed when he had arrived at Anfield from the Saints back in 2014.

Initially, a crucial player for Klopp in the German’s early tenure as the Liverpool FC boss, Lallana’s constant injury issues made him somewhat of a sporadic midfield option at the club, something that prompted Klopp to inform the Englishman that he had the Merseyside club’s blessings to ask his agent to be on the hunt for a new destination for him.

Klopp’s honesty in dealing with his transfer situation was praised by the 31-year old, who added that he had shared a great personal relationship with the Reds manager, which further helped him seal a move to the Amex this summer after getting to know that he was not a part of Klopp’s first-team plans going ahead.

“To give you a bit of an insight, I spoke to Jurgen (Klopp) in October of last year and just sat down and had an open conversation,” said Lallana, reports the Mirror.

“We have a great relationship and I just said ‘what’s it looking like for me next year?’. I know I’m out of contract and I know I’m not playing regularly.

“Although I had a pretty big role in the squad around the team, I wanted a bit of honesty. He basically said to me in October, get your agent to start looking for another club.
