Adam Lallana set to agree upon a three-year deal with Brighton

Adam Lallana is nearing a surprise move to Brighton and Hove Albion and will be agreeing upon a three-year deal with the Seagulls. Lallana’s contract with Liverpool FC expires following the Reds’ encounter against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon. Following the expiry of his deal with the champions of England, the 32-year old midfielder’s move to the Amex Stadium will be confirmed.

The English international’s reported move to Brighton would come as a shock to many. Lallana had been widely tipped to sign for former Liverpool FC manager Brendan Rodger’s side Leicester City. Moreover, there had been interest in the 32-year old from the player’s former side Southampton as well as Burnley.

Lallana was given a rapturous sendoff by his teammates and manager Jurgen Klopp in Liverpool FC’s recent training session at Melwood. Klopp has been known to be a huge admirer of the midfielder’s service towards Liverpool FC during the course of his six-year stay at the club. The Reds manager had even labeled Lallana as a legend for the Merseyside giants in a recent interview.

The player himself had expressed disappointment on not having got the opportunity to say a proper goodbye to the Liverpool FC supporters. Due to the onset of the COVID-19 crisis, all football games have been played behind-closed-doors.

As a result, there will no spectators present in the stands when Jurgen Klopp’s side pays a visit to Newcastle United, in what would be Lallana’s final match as a Liverpool FC player. The 32-year old is expected to get some minutes off the bench in the game against the Magpies on Sunday.

Upon signing for Graham Porter’s Brighton side, Lallana is expected to take a substantial pay cut in his wages. The English international earned £100,000-a-week while being a player for the Reds. However, the Seagulls are highly unlikely to pay Lallana a wage nearing that amount.

The 32-year old midfielder joined Liverpool FC from Southampton back in 2014 for a £25million fee. Having appeared in 178 games for the Reds, Lallana has scored 22 goals while assisting his teammates the same number of times during his stay at the Merseyside.
