Adrian puts pen to paper on an extended contract offer with Liverpool

Liverpool have tied down their backup goalkeeping option in Adrian to an extended deal on Merseyside with the veteran Spaniard rebuffing interest from abroad to stay put at Anfield beyond this summer, according to reports from the club’s official website.

There had been a couple of La Liga sides wanting to take on the 34-year-old whose previous deal at Anfield expired at end of this month but recent speculation had claimed that Adrian was willing to extend his contract with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The former West Ham United shot-stopper had fallen down the pecking order even further last season as the young Caoimhin Kelleher manned the Liverpool goalposts when the first-choice figure of Alisson Becker was out injured.

However, with the talk of the 22-year-old Irishman Kelleher being shipped out on loan for the upcoming campaign gaining ground in recent weeks, it was understood that Klopp will attempt to offer improved terms to Adrian.

Adrian featured in just three Premier League outings this past season out of which one was the humiliation suffered by the Merseysiders on their visit to Villa Park, a game which finished in a 7-2 drubbing for the visitors.
