Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has admitted that the clubs stunning start to the new Premier League season will mean for nothing if they do not keep maintaining their high standards.
The Spanish shot-stopper is continuing to fill in the void for the injured Alisson Becker as the Reds earned another crucial 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on Sunday, putting them five points clear at the summit of the Premier League.
However, Adrian urged his team to keep pushing for more, knowing reigning champions Manchester City are ready to pounce on any slip-ups in the future.
Last season, Jurgen Klopp led the Reds to an incredible 97 points in the Premier League which was the most ever since the club was formed back in 1892. But that was still not enough for the Merseyside giants to lift the Premiership as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City pipped them to the title by one solitary point.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper who joined Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer explained that the club needs to keep their momentum going in a positive manner. After the win against Chelsea, Adrian said, “We keep fighting and we keep that momentum going and keep it in a positive way, of course, we have done really well but we’ve done nothing yet so we need to keep going and keep fighting for the next one. We are on a good run in the Premier League with good energy and intensity. In the first half [against Chelsea] we did really well and I think we deserved the three points. Obviously they pushed in the second half but we defended really well.”
Jurgen Klopp’s team have now won six out of their opening six games and are the only team in the Premier League to maintain their 100 percent win record at the start of the new campaign.
