Alisson Becker Injury Update

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set to face a bit of time on the sidelines as Reds manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the Brazilian sustained a calf injury against Norwich City in Liverpool’s first Premier League game of the season.

Klopp’s men got off to a flying start on Friday night at Anfield as they hammered newly promoted Norwich City 4-1 with all their four goals coming in the first half of the game. However, the only dark cloud on the silver lining was Alisson Becker’s injury which forced the shot-stopper off the field on the 38th minute.

Alisson was preparing for a goal kick and in his follow, it seemed as if he pulled a muscle in his calf. The 26-year-old was then replaced by Adrian, who just joined the club on a free transfer a few days ago. But clearly, Alisson’s presence in goal is far superior to any other as he won the Golden Glove last season and helped Liverpool win the Champions League title as well.

Therefore, Klopp admitted some worrying news about his £60 million signing Alisson from last summer and clearly confirmed that Alisson will not be able to play a part in the UEFA Super Cup against Chelsea on Thursday in Istanbul.

The German boss spoke to reporters in his post-match press conference after defeating the Canaries and said, “There is actually nothing bad to say about the game apart from Ali’s injury. That is, of course, not well for us, but we have to see how serious it is and then we have to deal with it. It’s the calf and that’s it. He couldn’t carry on, that’s not a good sign. We have to see. Wednesday [in the Super Cup], he will not play – with all my experience, I can say that already. He is injured, for sure, so we have to see how much.”
