According to the latest reports, Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno is set for an Anfield exit in the January transfer window.
Liverpool is currently enjoying a great start to the Premier League campaign as they sit on 2nd place after 14 games in the season. The Merseyside giants are just two points off leaders Manchester City and look like the only side to rival Pep Guardiola’s champions this term.
But with the January transfer window coming close, the Reds are keen to get rid of some players in the winter in order for new arrivals. One player who is on the list to leave Liverpool in January is Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno as a couple of European clubs are keeping tabs on his situation.
Moreno has been out of favor at Liverpool as his contract expires at the end of the season but with no news of a possible extension, the Premier League giants will look to sell the 26-year-old in January. Ligue 1 club Marseille and Moreno’s former club Sevilla are monitoring Moreno’s contract situation and could swoop in for a move in the winter.
Since the emergence of Andrew Robertson mid-way during last season, the Scottish full-back has cemented his place in the left-back zone far ahead of Moreno, who has made just one Premier League appearance this season. It’s unlikely that Liverpool fans want Moreno at the club and a move looks imminent.
Former Spanish goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta sparked rumors of a return for Moreno to Spain and told L’Equipe: “I know him very well from his time at Sevilla. Normally, it’s not our market, then there may be circumstances that open up possibilities, it’s interesting, but it’s also interesting for Sevilla, who are looking for a left-back.”
Klopp should keep Moreno till the end of the season as Moreno is the only left back available if Andrew Robertson gets injured. In a season where Manchester City will seldom drop points, Moreno could be key for Liverpool later on in the season.
