Injury Update

Alisson Becker Making Steady Progress Towards Recovery

The latest reports have claimed that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has returned the light training following the injury that he picked up on the opening day of the Premier League season against Norwich City.

Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League and the only team with a 100 percent record after four games and Jurgen Klopp is eager to dethrone Manchester City as champions of England. And the German will have some more good news coming his way as his number one goalkeeper is making a steady recovery from a calf injury that he picked up earlier this season.

Alisson Becker limped off the pitch against Norwich City on the first day of the new season before half time forcing him to miss the UEFA Super Cup and the following three matches in the League. The 26-year-old was vital in winning the Champions League trophy for the Reds in the summer after his arrival from AS Roma in a massive £60 million deal last transfer window.

Back up goalkeeper Adrian has done well to deputize for Alisson but the 26-year-old is inching near to a comeback even though Klopp has not given a timescale of when his Brazilian will return to the first-team action.

But Liverpool’s goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has admitted that Alisson is making strides of progress slowly but surely. While speaking to the clubs official website he said, “Ali has been working with Dave [Rydings] in the gym a lot to improve the strength and try to keep the fitness levels up, In the last few days he has been out on the pitch to do some catching and footwork, as well as small passing drills. He has made steady progress, but it is difficult to say how long it will take or how it will progress. It needs time and we cannot look too far ahead, so we take each day as it comes, see how he feels, and then make progress from that.”
