Curtis Jones’ brilliant run of first-team involvement at Anfield has convinced Arsenal legend Ian Wright that the former remains in line to enjoy a great future in the Liverpool FC colours.
Injuries to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Thiago Alcantara, and James Milner paved the way for the 19-year-old Jones to grab plenty of first-team outings for his boyhood club as Jurgen Klopp chose to deploy his faith in the highly-promising Englishman.
Jones has not failed to impress critics with his majestic showings in the centre of the park for the Merseysiders, with the midfield starlet’s display in the 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspurs being subject to applaud from notable figures in the footballing community, particularly ex-England international Alan Shearer.
Shearer’s former striking partner in the Three Lions setup, Wright too has been left stirred by the tremendous series of showings put in by Jones as competition for the midfield spots in the Liverpool FC begins to heat up following Oxlade-Chamberlain and Thiago reported being on the verge of making a comeback to regular first-team action.
“The way they’ve nurtured him up to this point, I’m watching him doing backheel flicks, passing simply, taking his opportunity to get in the box, shooting when he has the opportunity,” said Wright on the Wrighty’s House podcast.
“He just looks like a complete player already. Yes, Thiago’s going to come back in, can Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain shift back in now with the way he plays?
“You look at him and you think yeah, he’s the future and he’s probably going to be there for many years, he’s absolutely fantastic. Unbelievable.”
