Arthur Melo confirms his desire to leave Liverpool amid lack of playing time

Liverpool midfielder Arthur Melo has announced he will leave the club at the end of this season after struggling to make an impression while on loan due to injury.

The Brazil international has only played for 13 minutes after joining the Reds on loan from Juventus on the transfer deadline day of last summer.

The midfielder would miss six months of play due to surgery for a thigh injury sustained the following month. The 26-year-old hasn’t been included in the Liverpool matchday squad for the Reds’ last seven matches, despite coming off the bench against Bournemouth, Manchester City, and Chelsea.

Arthur’s loan agreement did include a permanent signing option for the Reds, but they understandably chose not to use it in light of their summer midfield rebuild.

The Brazilian revealed that he will be leaving Liverpool, but he still expects to make his Premier League debut before he leaves. As reported by The Mirror, Arthur said:

“Next season I see it with good eyes. It will be decisive in my career and I am working very well. I’m looking forward to showing this new version of Arthur.”

It is unclear whether he will really get to play in any of the remaining league games since he has yet to make his Premier League debut for Liverpool.

Arthur was once praised for having a “incredible” start to his career at Barcelona before being hindered by injuries and inconsistent performances.

It will be interesting to watch where he goes after leaving Liverpool and whether he is successful in getting back into La Liga.
