Bayer Leverkusen join the race for Liverpool’s centre-back Nat Phillips

Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen are shock entrants in the widely-contested race to land the signature of Liverpool defender Nat Phillips who is linked with an exit from Anfield this summer.

Reports from Sky Sports claim that Bayer Leverkusen have joined the fray for Phillips who finds himself surplus to requirements on Merseyside ahead of the start of the 2021-2022 campaign for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Phillips was a standout performer in the Liverpool backline during the backend of last season and his showings were key to Liverpool securing a pivotal top-four finish which assures them of Champions League action in the upcoming campaign.

However, with the big-money arrival of long-term target Ibrahima Konata earlier in this summer window, Phillips is backed to be offloaded by Liverpool who are hoping to pocket a sizable fee for parting ways with the young central defender with Premier League club Brighton the frontrunners for his signature.

There is no shortage of suitors for the Liverpool man besides the aforementioned clubs with West Ham United, Burnley and Newcastle United also believed to be keeping tabs on Phillips.
