Boost For Liverpool As Bayern Munich Pull Out Of Race To Appoint Xabi Alonso

Liverpool have received a major boost in their pursuit of signing Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso this summer.

As revealed by the Italian outlet La Repubblica, Bayern Munich have moved out of the race to sign the Spaniard.

The Bavarian giants are looking to rope in Antonio Conte as their next head coach. Their current manager Thomas Tuchel is set to leave the club this summer following a poor performance by his side in the Bundesliga.

Hence, Bayern are shifting their attention to a new manager and sees Conte as the ideal fit for the club. The Italian is a free agent after leaving Tottenham Hotspur on a sour note last year.

The manager has vast experience in winning several silverware in the Serie A with Inter Milan and Juventus and in the Premier League with Chelsea.

The German giants were in talks with the manager months ago, but they had never made a formal proposal to him. It seems that they have now moved on from Alonso.

Liverpool aiming to win the race to sign Alonso as their next head coach

This is a huge boost for Liverpool in their attempts to sign the Spanish manager, who is taking the Bundesliga by storm this season. Alonso-led Bayer Leverkusen are sitting at the top of the league with a very healthy margin.

They are favorites to win the German league title this year and end Bayern’s 10-year dominance. They are also performing well in the UEFA Europa League.

Alonso’s future after the season is still uncertain with Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro trying to convince the former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder to stay at the club.

The 42-year-old has the pedigree to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield and continue his legacy as the club’s ultimate legend. It won’t be an easy task but he is surely the right contender to take this role.

For now, he will be focused on his current team’s performances and it remains to be seen whether the Reds are successful in luring Alonso to England this summer.
