Liverpool failed to maintain their winning streak in the Premier League with Jurgen Klopp’s men falling to a 3-1 defeat to Brentford on Monday.

The first game of 2023 for both teams got off to a lively start with Liverpool forcing Brentford goalie David Raya into action early on with efforts from Van Dijk and Salah.

Darwin Nunez nearly found the back of the net after going past Raya in the hopes of finding an empty goal but Ben Mee produced an excellent block for denying the Liverpool frontman.

It was the home side who drew first blood with Liverpool’s returning centre-back Ibrahima Konate deflecting the ball into his own net from a Brentford corner.

Two goals from Wissa were chalked off for offside, however, the Bees forward was on the scoresheet before the interval when he slotted the ball past Alisson from Mathias Jensen’s cross.

Liverpool made three changes at the break and looked to have pulled one back in the opening exchanges of the second period when Nunez lobbed over Raya to make it 2-1 only for a VAR check to disallow the strike.

Oxlade-Chamberlain reduced the deficit for his side when he nodded a cross form Trent Alexander-Arnold into the back of the net but Brentford rubber stamped their win in the dying embers through Mbeumo.
