Celta Vigo president confirms Liverpool target Gabri Veiga will leave this summer

Celta Vigo president Carlos Mourino confirms Liverpool target Gabri Veiga will leave this coming summer in a boost to Jurgen Klopp’s plans of landing the promising midfielder.

The 20-year-old’s contract with the La Liga side is not due to expire until 2026 but Veiga’s stellar run of displays has courted him interest from Premier League big boys Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and Newcastle.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, it is claimed that Celta Vigo president Mourino has admitted that it would be difficult to retain their in-demand maestro with big-money offers on the table for his signature.

“We don’t want him to leave but I know of the offers he has received and it is impossible for us to pay this money to keep him in our club. The choice will be with the player and we accept that but the club that wants Gabri will have to pay the buyout clause in June.”

Veiga will cost a fee in the region of £35 million but Liverpool have their arch rivals Manchester United leading the race to sign the exciting Spanish talent when the transfer window reopens for business in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp is desperate to overhaul his midfield ranks before the next season gets underway and Veiga is one of the names on the German’s shopping list to bolster the squad at Anfield.
