It was a frantic start to the weekend clash at the Bridge with either side looking to take an early lead and put pressure on the opposition.

Mohamed Salah drew a flying save from Chelsea goalie Mendy and at the other end of the pitch, Liverpool’s man between the sticks Caoimhin Kelleher stood his ground to deny Christian Pulisic.

An error in the Chelsea defensive half from Trevoh Chalobah allowed Sadio Mane to go through on goal and take a touch around Mendy to find the back of the net.

Liverpool soon doubled their advantage with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s sublime pass finding Mohamed Salah who ankled his finish past Mendy to make it 2-0 for the visitors.

Just before the interval, however, Chelsea had managed to get back into the game with two goals in four minutes from Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic as Liverpool failed to put up with an inspired attacking setup from the Blues.

The second period saw both teams try hard for the third and deciding goal which failed to materialise as both goalkeepers were kept busy.

Kelleher kept out Pulisic’s close-range volley in an important save from the Liverpool shot-stopper with the final whistle soon bringing the close to a highly entertaining affair.
