New Anfield arrival Thiago Alcantara misses out on making his first start for the Reds due to a minor fitness issue as Jurgen Klopp’s side play hosts to Arsenal in the third match week of the 2020-21 Premier League season.
Thiago had been widely expected to replace the injured Jordan Henderson in the centre of the park for Liverpool FC, with the latter having been sidelined for the game against the Gunners in an official confirmation by Klopp in his pre-match interview.
Joe Gomez, however, returns to the starting XI for the hosts after missing Liverpool FC’s last Premier League encounter, a 2-0 away win at Chelsea. The English international partners Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the backline with Fabinho returning to the three-man midfield for the Merseyside giants.
Diogo Jota finds himself on the bench for Monday afternoon’s game after making his debut for Liverpool FC in last week’s EFL Cup tie against Lincoln City. A number of attacking options are available at Klopp’s disposal among his substitutes, including the likes of Divock Origi and Takumi Minamino.
