Jordan Henderson, Liverpool FC’s skipper and an important cog in the Merseyside club’s three-man midfield, will miss the Reds’ upcoming Premier League clash against Arsenal, Jurgen Klopp confirmed.
The 30-year old Henderson was substituted at the close of the first half during Liverpool FC’s 2-0 win at Chelsea last weekend away from home. Henderson appeared to have had sustained a slight knock against Frank Lampard’s men, due to which Klopp had made the decision of bringing on new signing Thiago Alcantara to replace the ex-Sunderland man on the pitch.
The English international had played no part in Liverpool FC’s latest EFL Cup fixture, a 7-2 thrashing of Lincoln City. Henderson, in fact, did not even make the bench for the game against Thursday’s opponents which indicated that the minor knock suffered by the Reds’ skipper could have been more damaging than it previously appeared to be.
Klopp settled the speculation around Henderson’s availability for the Arsenal game at Anfield next week, with the German stating that the midfielder was set to watch from the sidelines rather than be involved in the match.
“Hendo not yet, that was clear – this game is for sure too early. I think that’s it, pretty much.”
Henderson’s absence on the pitch on Tuesday could mean a potential start being awarded to Thiago. The Spaniard is yet to start a game for Liverpool FC since his move to Anfield from Bayern Munich on a four-year deal.
