Coutinho Not Surprised By Liverpool’s Rise

Bayern Munich midfielder Philippe Coutinho has not been surprised to see his former club Liverpool dominate the Premier League but insisted that he does not “look back” despite enduring a difficult time since leaving Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Coutinho left Anfield to join La Liga side Barcelona back in the January transfer window of 2018 in a move which was worth €160million (£142m), but, after initially impressing in his first few weeks at the Camp Nou, the Brazilian failed to convince in his first full campaign with the Spanish champions and was allowed to leave on loan to German club Bayern Munich, who also have the option to buy the player.

But the 27-year-old has been similarly underwhelming in the Bundesliga making only 12 starts in 21 games so far in the campaign.

Bayern has reportedly decided that they will not trigger their option to purchase, which is reportedly set at €120 million. While Coutinho has struggled following his move away from England, Klopp’s Reds have gone from strength to strength and look destined to add Premier League glory to last season’s Champions League success, but the Brazilian insists he has only happy thoughts for his time at Liverpool.

While speaking to reporters, the playmaker explained that he is not surprised by Liverpool’s success and admittedly happy for them, “Liverpool is flying, and it doesn’t surprise me, We’ve seen it already last year when they won the Champions League, but I’m also not surprised because of their fantastic squad and manager. I am so happy for them, because I have so many friends there, former team-mates, so I’m just so happy for them. But that’s it. I don’t look back.”

He further went on to state that he is now only looking forward, “I took another path, and now I am on another journey, much like everyone else. I’m focused entirely – just like them – on reaching my dreams. I’m happy with what I did in the past, and now I can only look forward.”
