Curtis Jones says Man City loss was a great lesson for him

Curtis Jones says that the 4-1 thrashing pelted out to Liverpool FC by table-toppers Manchester City came as a lesson to the young midfielder and that the defeat proved to be a prominent experience for him.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were handed a third successive defeat on their own patch as Pep Guardiola’s side made the visit to Merseyside, adding to the recent woes endured by the reigning champions in Premier League action.

The 20-year-old Jones has been a resurgent figure in the first-team ranks at Anfield since the backend of last season and his extended involvement for Liverpool FC has earned the English starlet huge plaudits.

In an interview to the club’s official website, Jones was quite vocal in detailing his aspirations looking further in time as he admitted wanting to take on a greater level of responsibility while turning out for his boyhood club and added that the recent loss to Manchester City was a real eye-opener for him.

“Two years ago, I don’t think I would ever have thought that I would have played this amount of games. It’s been a positive period for me on a personal note.

“But I’m happy I’m doing well. I’m a player who wants to be counted on and hopefully, I can help the boys out going forward.

“I’ve always said that I’m a confident lad who likes to get the ball and try to make things happen. That’s what I was trying to do (against Manchester City).

“It was a hard game, it was a great test for me and a great experience – and I think I did okay.”
