Daniel Sturridge voices praise for Liverpool’s transfer policy, hails Michael Edwards’s work

Liverpool FC old boy Daniel Sturridge has hailed the Merseyside outfit’s transfer policy these last few summers, with the England international voicing praise for  Michael Edwards’s work behind the scenes as well.

The Reds have been largely proactive in their transfer business over the years, and despite offloading some of the biggest talents, including the likes of Coutinho and Luis Suarez to FC Barcelona, quality players have arrived at Anfield to much fanfare and on-field success, with a special mention to Diogo Jota.

The Portuguese international’s big-money move to Liverpool FC this summer was initially subject to scepticism from all corners, however, the forward has been a revelation in his attacking endeavours, netting nine goals in 16 outings for Jurgen Klopp’s side and firmly establishing his first-team credentials in the process.

Sturridge, now a free agent after his short spell with Turkish outfit Trabzonspor following his Anfield exit, applauded the transfer work done by his old club while speaking to The Beautiful Game Podcast, and the ex-Chelsea striker voiced special praise for Michael Edwards’s astute in his dealings for the Reds.

“To say the team was missing someone like me was how they sold it. We got Luis Suarez over here, unbelievable player, Stevie G [Steven Gerrard], who I trained with at England.

“They had a young Raheem and they also had ambitions as well. They said they were going to sign players. They then brought [Philippe] Coutinho in who was a bargain bucket. Bargain bucket man, a KFC bargain bucket!

“It was a snip and we were cheap. £12million for myself and £8million for Coutinho. I don’t know how much they earned from Coutinho.

“For myself, I was there a long time and signed another deal and saw the length of my contract out.

“But they just make great signings at the club. They know what they are doing. Michael Edwards and the team behind the scenes, they just know what they are doing.”
