David Alaba’s potential move to Liverpool could be challenged by Manchester City

Rumours suggesting that David Alaba could be set to sign for Liverpool FC in the very near future refuse to die down as the Austrian international seeks an exit from Bayern Munich at the earliest, according to reports from Daily Mail.

It is understood that Manchester City are also very much in the race to sign Alaba, but Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC may be ahead of their arch-rivals to land the 28-year-old’s signature as the German coach is in dire need of centre-back reinforcements for his squad.

With Virgil van Dijk being a long-term injury absentee as a result of a damaged ACL, and recent injury issues for both Fabinho and Joel Matip, Klopp is in urgent requirement of an experienced name in the central defender position ahead of the opening of the winter transfer window in January.

Alaba’s current deal with Bayern is due to expire in June 2021, and a cut-price deal for him could come at a bargain for Liverpool FC. However, the Reds are aware of the player’s keen desire to seal a move to either of the La Liga giants in FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.
