Injury Update

Early reports suggest that Van Dijk could be out for 7-8 months with a ACL tear

Initial reports over Virgil van Dijk’s injury troubles have been deeply concerning for the Liverpool FC fanbase, with certain reports from Bein Sports suggesting that the 29-year old could be sidelined for upto 7-8 months.

A rash challenge on the Dutch international from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was the cause of the injury to Van Dijk, who was taken off the pitch just moments later. Joe Gomez was brought on to replace the 29-year old, and the English international took his place alongside the returning Joel Matip in the heart of the backline for Liverpool FC.

Bein Sports suggest that the former Southampton man may have suffered an ACL tear, one which could potentially keep him on the sidelines for a significant period of time. Additional reports had stated that Van Dijk had to leave the hospital on crutches in the aftermath of the game.

In the game that turned out to be one of the most well-contested Merseyside derby clashes in recent times, the Reds could only salvage out a 2-2 draw on their visit to Goodison Park, and for now, sit second in the Premier League standings for the 2020-21 season.
