Manchester City shot stopper Ederson has claimed that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker should win the FIFA Best Goalkeeper Of The Year Award after a stellar year with his club and country.
Alisson moved from Serie A giants AS Roma to Liverpool back in the summer transfer window of 2018 and enjoyed an exceptional debut season at Anfield as he helped the club to win the Champions League title.
The 26-year-old was named the competition’s best goalkeeper last week and also won the Golden Glove at the end of his maiden Premier League term recording 21 clean sheets in 38 games.
Alisson was then crucial for his national side as he helped Brazil triumph at the Copa America and looks a clear frontrunner to be crowned the third winner of FIFA’s top goalkeeping honor after Gianluigi Buffon and Thibaut Courtois.
Ederson and Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona are also in the running for the prestigious award but the City player believes that his national compatriot is the standout.
While speaking to reporters Ederson explained, “I think the three of us were the best, but I see Alisson one step ahead, He was great in the Premier League, won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and had a great Copa America as well. So I think whoever wins will be deserving and I’m happy for two Brazilian goalkeepers to reach this level.”
Alisson is currently spending some time on the sidelines after a calf injury that he picked up on the opening day of the Premier League season with Liverpool.
