Injury Update

England manager Gareth Southgate provides update on Jordan Henderson’s fitness

England manager Gareth Southgate has revealed that Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has been unable to train properly with the Three Lions during the ongoing international break.

Henderson did not feature in England’s 2-1 win over Italy in their first Euro 2024 qualifier in Naples on Thursday night as the Reds skipper was amongst the unused substitutes.

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips got the nod to start the game ahead of Henderson whose absence was explained by his national team boss  Southgate during the latter’s post-match remarks, as quoted by a report from The Liverpool Echo.

“Hendo was a big part of the midfield in the World Cup but hasn’t trained fully over the last week so we’re keeping him back.”

A recent bout of illness has been the cause for Henderson being sidelined from Liverpool’s final game prior to the break which came against Real Madrid in a 1-0 defeat in the second leg clash for Klopp’s men.

Klopp, meanwhile, would be hoping that Henderson is in line for a swift recovery with the Liverpool manager facing an injury crisis in his midfield department after reports confirmed that breakout star Stefan Bajcetic would be missing the remainder of the season with an abductor injury.
