English giants Liverpool interested in Ajax star defender Devyne Rensch

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are reportedly showing interest in Ajax star Devyne Rensch as Jurgen Klopp seeks defensive additions in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Reds are experiencing some defensive depth issues, and the 20-year-old talent is considered a suitable backup option for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

During the summer transfer window, Jurgen Klopp’s initial transfer plans were disrupted by the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

The manager may have planned to retain the pair while also introducing new defensive talents. However, he concentrated his efforts on reshaping the midfield, ultimately making quality signings.

The German manager is expected to focus on bolstering the defensive aspects of his squad in January.

Liverpool’s current concerns include being the only top-six team without a left-footed centre-back. They have been linked to Portuguese star Goncalo Inacio and it might require a significant investment to secure his services.

Another priority for the club is finding a backup for Trent Alexander-Arnold, as they lack another recognized right-back in their squad.

While Joe Gomez has filled in for Alexander-Arnold in some matches this season, Klopp sees the need for a long-term solution in that position.

As a result, Liverpool are showing interest in Ajax’s Rensch and could potentially pursue a deal in the upcoming January transfer window.

The youngster has already amassed over 100 appearances for the Dutch club and is currently their primary right-back.

The Reds may face competition from Arsenal but could gain an advantage by making an early approach. Rensch’s versatility, as he can also play in central defence, aligns with Klopp’s preferences.

With a contract running until 2025, the Merseyside club might view Rensch as a cost-effective target for the upcoming January transfer window.

Meanwhile, Ajax have experienced a challenging start to the season, currently occupying the bottom of the Eredivisie table.
