Ex-England manager Sam Allardyce not impressed by Liverpool’s transfer business this summer

Ex-England manager Sam Allardyce has said that he is not been left impressed by Liverpool’s transfer business this summer window which shut close on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klopp finished the summer window by adding only Ibrahima Konate to the Anfield roster with the Frenchman’s arrival on the scene giving the Liverpool boss another prolific name to choose from at the back.

Despite the exit of the long-serving midfield general Gini Wijnaldum who chose not to extend his deal at Anfield by signing for Paris Saint-Germain, Klopp did not pursue a move for a replacement midfielder from the market.

Moreover, the departure of the fringe attacking players in Harry Wilson and Xherdan Shaqiri had led to talk of the Liverpool boss wanting to add a fresh face but instead ended up retaining the first-team outcast Divock Origi who failed to secure a move elsewhere all summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former England and West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce voiced his concerns over Liverpool’s insignificant activity in the summer window with the veteran coach noting that Klopp’s men could struggle should a repeat of last seasons injury crisis come through once again.

“I am a bit underwhelmed by Liverpool, not much activity there.”

“Wijnaldum going and only one man coming in.

“I know that they are basing a lot on their injured players and the quality of their injured players coming back.

“But who is to say they won’t have that injury crisis again somewhere in the season?”
