Fabrizio Romano claims Alisson Becker is in line to sign a contract extension at Anfield

Liverpool’s first-choice man between the sticks Alisson Becker is in the running to agree upon extended terms with Jurgen Klopp’s side, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano on his Here We Go podcast.

Alisson has been Liverpool’s go-to man in the goalkeeping role since his move to the Anfield giants in the summer of 2018 after Loris Karius’ blunders had cost the club dearly in the 2017-18 Champions League final against Real Madrid in Ukraine.

Despite his injury troubles last season, which forced Klopp to turn to the much inexperienced Caoimhin Kelleher to man the goalposts for the Merseysiders, Alisson’s return was pivotal towards Liverpool ensuring a third-place finish in the Premier League standings which assures them of a Champions League berth for the upcoming season.

Speaking on his podcast, Romano claimed that Alisson’s contract extension at Anfield was imminent and the Brazil international shot-stopper will be penning a new deal with Liverpool.

The journalist, however, added that the turn of events could take place in the coming weeks or even months as Klopp and Liverpool are expected to focus more on the transfer window currently underway.

“So Alisson is getting closer to signing a new contract with Liverpool.”

“It will take some weeks, maybe months because of course with the timing for these kinds of things.”

“But Alisson is getting really, really close to signing a contract with Liverpool.”
