Former Liverpool midfielder Arthur Melo joins Italian side Fiorentina on loan

As stated by Fiorentina’s official Twitter handle, Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo has joined the Italian giants after an unsuccessful loan spell with Premier League giants Liverpool.

The midfielder initially signed for Liverpool in the latter part of the 2022 summer transfer window as a temporary solution due to Jordan Henderson’s injury.

The Reds needed additional depth in midfield, and they paid a €4.5 million loan fee to Juventus for Arthur’s services. The deal also included a buy-option for €37.5 million.

Liverpool’s decision to sign the former Barcelona star on loan showed their trust in him to perform well. The midfielder was not getting enough playing time at Allianz Arena and the move to Anfield was seen as an opportunity for him to revive his career.

However, things did not go as planned, and the Spaniard made only one senior appearance the Reds, playing for just 13 minutes. Ironically, his time at the club was plagued by injuries, which was the issue he was brought in to address.

Liverpool chose not to exercise the buy option for Arther after his loan spell, and he has now joined Fiorentina on loan from Juventus. The club has officially welcomed him, and they wish him the best in his career ahead.

However, it was evident that he wasn’t the ideal player for Liverpool. There were concerns about how he would adapt to the English game and if he could stay fit consistently.

The signings of Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister have been beneficial for the team, but Liverpool still needs to secure a new midfielder before the transfer window closes.

With the potential exits of Henderson and Fabinho, Jurgen Klopp should consider signing two more midfielders, as they cannot afford to compromise in this area.
