Gini Wijnaldum remains central to FC Barcelona’s transfer window plans

Gini Wijnaldum is key to FC Barcelona’s transfer window plans as the Dutch midfielder’s contract extension talks with the Merseyside Reds fail to move past several roadblocks.

With less than six months to go on his current deal with Liverpool FC, Wijnaldum’s long-term future at Anfield is a source of great uncertainty, reports The Mirror.

And with Ronald Koeman being increasingly keen on bringing his former Dutch star to Camp Nou, Jurgen Klopp has been hesitant to ward off any speculation concerning Wijnaldum’s contract situation with Liverpool FC.

As the January window nears its open, Wijnaldum will able to enter into negotiations with clubs across Europe to enter into a Bosman transfer which would go through next summer, however, in such a scenario the Reds would lose out on their first-team midfield regular for nothing.

With FC Barcelona’s mid-season crisis across all competitions, Koeman is under fire from the club’s fanbase to bring in new faces to bolster a weary-looking midfield department, forcing the ex-Netherlands boss to turn to Wijnaldum as a potential addition to his ranks at the La Liga outfit.
