Gini Wijnaldum set to seal Liverpool exit, expected to sign for FC Barcelona shortly

Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum is all set to seal his imminent exit from Anfield with the Holland international tipped to sign on as an FC Barcelona player just days after turning out in the Reds shirt for the final time.

The 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Anfield last weekend on the final day of the 2020-21 Premier League season was Wijnaldum’s swansong as  Liverpool first-teamer with his contract coming a close on July 1.

Despite repeated attempts, Jurgen Klopp was unable to convince the former Newcastle man on extending his stay on Merseyside as FC Barcelona kept tabs on their priority target ahead of this summer.

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the 30-year-old Wijnaldum has given his verbal agreement to a deal with FC Barcelona and is certain to become the Catalan giants’ second signing of the mid-year window after Manchester City talisman Sergio Aguero.

European heavyweights FC Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain were also understood to be in the race for the Dutchman’s signature but Wijnaldum had his heart set on a move to Spain to turn out for the Blaugrana.
