The Reds remain confident about tying Gini Wijnaldum to a long-term contract extension shortly. The Dutch international’s existing deal with the Premier League champions is set to expire next season. Speculation is rife that Wijnaldum may choose to leave the Merseyside Reds as soon as this summer following Liverpool FC’s league title-winning journey.
The Reds’ supporters have taken to social media to vent their frustrations over the club’s delay in extending Wijnaldum’s contract. Many Liverpool FC fans believe that the midfielder’s recent post on Twitter is a cryptic message suggesting he is nearing an exit from the Merseyside club.
What a ride this season’s been. From a great start to not knowing if we’d even finish the season to a very happy ending 🙌🏾 Now it’s time to recharge, re-focus and enjoy what we’ve accomplished 🙏🏾 And most importantly spend some time with family and friends ❤️❤️ pic.twitter.com/CpAWp5T9sJ

The 29-year old Wijnaldum has been the most used midfield player by Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp this season. The former Newcastle United man has featured in 47 games for the Reds during the course of the club’s 2019-20 domestic and continental obligations.
Moreover, there is no doubt that the player has become a very important part of Klopp’ set up at Anfield. Besides being a very energetic and hardworking presence in the centre of the park for Liverpool FC, Wijnaldum also comes in clutch for his side on numerous occasions. The 29-year old has the ability to turn up with crucial goals whenever his side requires him the most.
Wijnaldum is fielded on the left side of Liverpool FC’s central midfield alongside Fabinho and club caption Jordan Henderson. The midfield trio’s contribution to the Reds has been instrumental in the Merseyside club’s success over the past two seasons.
However, with Liverpool FC eyeing a move for Spanish playmaker Thiago Alcântara, Wijnaldum’s future at the club looks uncertain. If the Reds do manage to secure Thiago’s signing from Bayern Munich this summer, the 29-year old is unlikely to not be a part of the club’s starting lineup.
In order to accommodate the potential arrival of the Bayern star, Klopp may look to sell Wijnaldum this summer. Serie A giants Inter Milan are reported to be very keen on adding the Dutch international to their ranks.
However, reports last month had indicated Liverpool FC’s desire of handing out a new four-year deal to the 29-year old. Wijnaldum is still seen as a crucial member of the Reds’ title-winning squad despite the rumours linking Thiago with a move to Anfield.
