Glen Johnson reckons Enzo Fernandez would be a great signing for Liverpool

Glen Johnson reckons Enzo Fernandez would be an excellent signing for Liverpool who are rumoured to be interested in moving in for the midfield talent.

Fernandez was one of the names to watch out for at the World Cup in Qatar where his nation Argentina were crowned the champions after a thrilling penalty shootout win over France in Sunday’s final.

The Benfica midfielder has been linked with a move to Anfield where Jurgen Klopp is desperate to bolster his engine room with fresh legs ahead of the upcoming January transfer window which opens in less than two weeks.

Liverpool will face heavy competition to secure the signing of the 21-year-old Fernandez with the likes of Newcastle United and Arsenal also interested in the Argentine youngster despite his hefty £105 million release clause.

Speaking to Midnite, the former Chelsea and Liverpool wing-back Johnson claimed that Klopp’s Merseysiders will benefit greatly from signing Fernandez with the Reds likely to have scouted him prior to his displays at the World Cup.

“Enzo Fernandez looks like a really good player and will be a really good signing for Liverpool. If the deal is already agreed then you know Liverpool have not signed him purely on his World Cup form. When clubs sign players who play well for three games at a World Cup, it’s madness. Fernandez would have been scouted properly before the World Cup and Liverpool knew how good he can become.”
