Almost Half Of The Liverpool Fans Want Joel Matip Sold In January

According to the latest reports, around 44% of the Liverpool fans have voted for Joel Matip to be sold in the January transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is currently sitting 2nd on the Premier League table and seem like the only club who can give Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City a good run for the title this term. The entire Anfield unit is progressing with each passing game and Liverpool are getting more and more confident with each passing day but the fans are not keen on seeing one player at the club, and he is none other than Jose Matip.

Matip was purchased by Klopp from Bundesliga club Schalke in the summer of 2016 but has found himself restricted to just appearances off the bench this season. The 27-year-old center-back has fallen further down the pecking order as Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez have formed a solid partnership in the heart of Liverpool’s defense.

Even Dejan Lovren has been used more frequently than Matip which has put Matip’s future at Merseyside in jeopardy. Turkish club Fenerbahce and Fulham are interested in the services of Matip, who could be allowed to leave in January.

Although Matip still has two years left on his current deal, a poll by news outlet Spor showed that 44% of the Liverpool fans wanted him to be sold in the winter transfer window. At 6 feet and 5 inches, Matip is a threat in the air and scored a goal in his only Premier League start this season. He is also only one of the four senior defenders in Klopp’s side who has the experience of playing big games.

With quite a major chunk of Liverpool fans wanting Matip out of the club in the winter, it could possibly be the case that the club could allow him to leave as he could make the fan base toxic.
