Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin have played down the recent speculation of their interest in landing the signature of Liverpool star Xherdan Shaqiri who is certain to call it quits at Anfield this summer.
The Swiss international wide player has voiced his concerns over the lack of first-team action in the Liverpool shirt and wants a move elsewhere in the ongoing transfer window amid a number of clubs in line to make a move for his services.
Hertha Berlin too had been credited with a strong interest in the 29-year-old Shaqiri according to previous reports but the club’s sporting director Fredi Bobic has asserted that the German outfit does not want to bring in the Liverpool man as per his interview with Inside Futbol.
“He [Shaqiri] is a great player; I really like him”,
“But he is not someone we are concerned with [in the ongoing transfer window].”
Shaqiri has his long-term suitors in Serie A heavyweights Lazio who under their new boss Maurizio Sarri are rumoured to be the leading the widely-contested race to sign the Reds first-teamer in a cut-price deal before the transfer window slams shut.
Liverpool are understood to have given the nod to Shaqiri to head out the Anfield exit door with the player’s exit likely opening up a spot for Jurgen Klopp to fill by inducting a new arrival from the transfer market.
