Serie A outfit Lazio make the first move in signing Liverpool man Xherdan Shaqiri

Lazio have intensified their interest in signing Liverpool wide player Xherdan Shaqiri with the Italian club lodging an opening offer worth €12 million for the Swiss international, according to reports from football365.

Shaqiri has been backed to call it quits on Merseyside in this summer’s transfer window with his first-team involvement for Liverpool becoming quite sparse over the last couple of seasons as Klopp decided to bring in Diogo Jota in the summer window of 2020.

Jota’s great run of form for his new colours has made the young Portugal attacker a favourite with Klopp and the Liverpool fans alike, leaving Shaqiri on the very fringes of the Anfield camp as talk of his exit from the club gained ground following the conclusion of the UEFA European Championships earlier this month.

Serie A outfit Lazio had been considered the frontrunners to sign the former Inter Milan and Stoke City man who has failed to cement a regular presence on the Liverpool teamsheet in recent years but it remains to be seen whether Lazio’s offer worth €12 million can convince Klopp to sanction the player’s sale.

It is understood that Liverpool are looking to be paid €15 million for parting ways with Shaqiri with the funds set to be used by Klopp to bring in further reinforcements for his side heading into the start of the new season.
