Ahead of Liverpool FC’s opening Premier League game of the 2020-21 season against Leeds United, Jurgen Klopp’s pre-match conference was blighted by a question that has been asked so often of the German in recent months, the transfer situation of Thiago Alcantara.
The Bayern Munich midfield maestro continues to be linked with a move to Anfield this summer. However, despite Klopp’s reluctance of admitting to his interest in the Spanish playmaker, the Merseyside giants’ talks with Bayern have hit a roadblock of late.
However, upon being quizzed again on the Reds’ speculated pursuit of the La Masia product, Klopp attempted to play down his club’s involvement in signing Thiago, despite labeling the midfielder as a ‘really good player’.
“If I could invent a word to end speculations I’d be really rich. Did I mention that Thiago is a really good player? It’s nice that we are linked with him but pretty much that’s all.
“Good for you I cannot end the speculation.”
The German club’s insistence on sticking to a £27 million price-tag for the 29-year old Thiago is the cause of worry for Jurgen Klopp’s side. Liverpool FC are understood to be wanting to conclude the ongoing negotiations by finalizing a £22 million fee, something that does not sit well with last season’s treble winners.
