Inter Milan want to retain star midfielder Nicolo Barella amid Liverpool interest

Liverpool’s interest in signing Inter Milan’s in-form midfield man Nicolo Barella has forced the Italian giants to draw up a new improved offer for the player to sign on and commit his future at San Siro, according to reports from The Mirror.

Barella’s terrific showings at the UEFA European Championships with Roberto Mancini’s Italy had awakened Liverpool to take notice of the young midfielder and approach Inter for his signature this summer.

Jurgen Klopp has been scouting the transfer market for a long time to find a new midfield man in light of the long-serving Gini Wijnaldum calling it quits on Merseyside and securing a move to Paris Saint-Germain on a long-term deal.

Despite being linked with a number of names across Europe’s biggest leagues, such as Brighton’s Yves Bissouma and FC Barcelona’s midfield prodigy Pedri, Klopp is yet to splash the cash on reinforcements to shore up his options in the centre of the park ahead of the new season.

France U21 international centre-back Ibrahima Konate so far remains Liverpool’s only purchase of the summer transfer window following his move to Anfield from RB Leipzig on a reported five-year-long deal.
