James Milner expects Joe Gomez to bounce back stronger from injury blow

James Milner, in a recent interview, voiced admiration for his teammate Joe Gomez, who is currently on the receiving end of a major injury setback, one which would sideline the English international centre-back for possibly the remainder of the 2020-21 season.

Gomez sustained a major knee injury blow while on duty with England, and later reports confirmed that the defender had undergone successful surgery in London and will now be subject to a strenuous rehabilitation programme at the Merseyside club.

And despite the long-term layoff awaiting the 23-year-old Gomez, Milner, one of the most senior and experienced names in Jurgen Klopp’s ranks at Anfield, is confident over his teammate being up to the task of staging a full and fine comeback to on-field action in the very near future.

“We’ve spoken about Virg a lot, Joe is exactly the same. I’m devastated for him,” he told Premier League Productions, as quoted by Liverpoolfc.com.

“He’s an amazing guy, first and foremost and most importantly, and you don’t want to see it happen to anyone but [especially not] someone like him.

“As a player, how good he is as well. People forget how young he is and what he’s done at this club already and how much he has improved and continues to improve.

“He’s still really young. He’s been through this once before with a bad injury and came through it stronger, so if anybody has got the mental fortitude to deal with this, it’s him.

“He has been through it before and he came back stronger, and I’m sure that will be the case again.

Gomez’s injury have left Liverpool FC reeling in a crisis at the back, with Joel Matip the only senior centre-back currently in full fitness ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Leicester City.
