Liverpool’s versatile chief James Milner is filling an iconic number 7 shirt at the club and is determined to add more medals to his collection with Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The 34-year-old England midfielder James Milner is proud to be following in the footsteps of Kenny Dalglish, Steve McManaman and Luis Suarez as Liverpool’s No.7 and is determined to help the Merseyside giants land more major silverware in the near future.
Milner joined the Reds in the summer of 2015 after enjoying considerable success at rivals Manchester City.
The challenge of bringing back the good times at Anfield helped convince Milner that a move to Liverpool was indeed the right choice.
Milner had to remain patient in pursuit of medals and honours, with final heartaches suffered in the domestic League cup and European competitions, but a Champions League triumph in June 2019 got the Reds back on the track of winning trophies.
Milner has been one of the key components in Jurgen Klopp’s plans, with a versatile operator filling in defensive and midfield berths while also donning a jersey made famous by some illustrious figures that preceded him at the club.
On wearing that number 7 shirt and getting Liverpool back to winning ways, Milner spoke to Sky Sports and explained his desperation to win trophies at Liverpool, “I was desperate to get a trophy for this club. You walk into Melwood every day and you see the trophies the club has won every single day. When you see the history and every day you see the players who have played, the players who have pulled on the No.7 shirt before me. When you are playing, playing at Anfield and you get a taste of that atmosphere.”
The veteran English star then explained that it was imperative for Liverpool to win a trophy by tasting success and then kick on from there, “It was so important to get off the mark and win that first trophy and it was massive for us as a group. It’s always important to win that first one and we managed to get the Super Cup and the World Championship this year and it’d be nice to add more”, Milner added.
