Jamie Carragher slams Liverpool’s failed pursuit of Romeo Lavia

Expressing his disappointment on Twitter, club legend Jamie Carragher has labelled Liverpool’s attempt to sign Romeo Lavia as embarrassing.

The Reds are in search of a new defensive midfielder following the departures of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabia. Lavia has been identified as a potential solution to this need.

Southampton are presenting obstacles for Liverpool in their pursuit. The club has firmly set a price of £50 million for the 19-year-old midfielder, who was acquired from Manchester City last year.

Recently, it was reported that Liverpool’s third offer for the Belgian player, approximately £45 million with potential add-ons, was turned down. Carragher is unhappy with the way his former club has handled the transfer at this moment in time. Writing on his official Twitter handle, he said:

He’s correct. We’re being cautious with spending at an inopportune time, particularly when our need for midfielders is urgent. Southampton are likely aware of this situation.

The departures of Henderson and Fabinho during a crucial pre-season phase have left us vulnerable. Even though Southampton might currently be in the Championship and might not have utilized Lavia in their first Championship match, they acquired him just last year and hold control over his future.

If not Liverpool, another club could express interest. The Belgian star possesses immense talent and is among the world’s best in his position considering his age.

Ideally, we should make the deal happen prior to the Chelsea match in London on August 13th. While he might not start then, he could participate in subsequent matches.
