Joe Gomez pens a new long-term deal with Liverpool

England international Joe Gomez signed a new long-term deal with Liverpool and put rest to the speculation over his future at the club beyond this summer’s transfer window.

The centre-back was linked with a move to Aston Villa as of late with Gomez failing to force his way back into Jurgen Klopp’s plans last season after a return from a long-term spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury.

Gomez, however, put pen to paper on an extension with the Reds, confirmed by a report from the club’s official website, with the London-born defender set to prolong his seven-year spell in the colours of Liverpool.

He made 21 outings in all competitions across the 2021-22 campaign for Jurgen Klopp’s men but only 11 of those were starts for the 25-year-old who could not dislodge new boy Ibrahima Konate in the centre-back role on the team sheet.

Klopp considers Gomez a vital cog of his squad for the coming seasons with the young defender expected to take over from the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip and prove himself as a viable partner for Konate.
