Joe Gomez wants to extend Liverpool stay and sign new deal

Joe Gomez wants to extend his stay at Liverpool beyond this summer and put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The England international’s Anfield future had become the subject of much speculation in recent weeks with rumours doing the rounds that Aston Villa were preparing a sizable offer to land his signature.

Gomez failed to force his way back into Jurgen Klopp’s plans last season after the centre-back’s return from a seven-month-long spell on the sidelines with a knee injury that severely curtailed his game time on Merseyside.

The Times journalist Paul Joyce has added to recent suggestions in the rumour mill that Liverpool are keen to tie down Gomez to a new deal with Joyce claiming that the player was ready to pen an extension following the opening of talks with the club.

Gomez’s current terms are due to expire at the end of the 2023-24 season and the 25-year-old is viewed as an important part of the Liverpool squad by Klopp despite limited first-team action over the past year.
