Jurgen Klopp confirmed a minor injury setback for Kostas Tsimikas was the reason for the latter missing out on Liverpool’s friendly at Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the Reds head coach Klopp sounded out concern over Tsimikas’ fitness levels which would be assessed further ahead of this weekend’s Community Shield clash against English top-flight champions Manchester City.
“He got yesterday a knock, so he cannot play today. And all the rest, we will see later.”
The Greek international wing-back Tsimikas joins Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Diogo Jota on the sidelines in an increasing injury list for the Liverpool side with Klopp fretting over the players as the new season gears up for kick-off.
Chamberlain’s injury is rumoured to have prompted Liverpool’s decision to hold out on sending the 19-year-old Tyler Morton to Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers in a season-long loan deal this summer.
Morton had been expected to pen terms with the Blackburn camp and make the move away from Merseyside in the transfer window to earn valuable first-team football.
