Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp issued plaudits for his star man Diogo Jota’s impact following the win over Southampton on Saturday.
Jordan Henderson and Co. picked up a third win on the trot with a brace from Jota and goals apiece from Thiago Alcantara and Virgil van Dijk ensuring a 4-0 scoreline against the visiting Saints outfit.
Jota scored twice inside the opening period for the home side in a result that took them second in the league table until Manchester City take on fellow top-four side West Ham United later this weekend.
The 24-year-old Liverpool man has been in flying form in the final third as Roberto Firmino’s spell on the sidelines with hamstring trouble has secured extended first-team football for Jota.
Klopp in his post-match remarks to the club’s official website hailed the impact of Jota on Liverpool’s showing in the Anfield showdown against Southampton with the latter branded a ‘perfect signing ‘ by the German coach.
“Diogo, exceptional player, exceptional boy.”Â
“It was for us… a perfect signing because he has everything that a Liverpool player in this squad needs.
“He has the technical skills, the physical skills, and he is very smart and can learn all the tactical stuff pretty quick.”
“He has the speed, the desire to finish situations off really good.”
“I think his goal-scoring record is pretty impressive if I’m right.
“Unfortunately, he had a big injury last year and that is then never helpful. But he is back, thank God, and fits really well in this team. I’m really happy for him.”
