Jurgen Klopp said he was hopeful of Roberto Firmino’s swift return from injury with the Brazilian sitting out Monday’s 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.
Firmino did not make the matchday squad for the home side Liverpool who were held to a second successive stalemate of the new Premier League campaign by the visiting Palace outfit.
Joining Gomez on the injury list ahead of the Palace game was centre-back Joel Matip with England internationals Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez only deemed fit enough to feature on the bench for Klopp’s Reds.
Speaking to reporters in the aftermath of the match, Klopp sounded out an encouraging update over Firmino’s injury niggle with the Liverpool head coach claiming that the forward was in line for a return to the fold in time for the next game against rivals Manchester United.
Quoted by a report from Metro, Klopp said Matip could be back in the Liverpool squad in the next two weeks while both Gomez and Henderson will be expected to shake off their niggles.
‘The week was crazy, I’ve experienced a lot of weeks but that was like we had a witch in the building.
‘Every day was like somebody else pulled out for the craziest reasons.
‘In the end Joey [Gomez] didn’t start, and then did really well I have to say, but he didn’t start because he only trained yesterday again, started the week with a little issue.
