Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has dismissed any ideas that claim Liverpool opening up an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table will crank up the pressure on the European champions.
The Reds produced a ruthless performance to defeat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 3-1 in front of an ecstatic Anfield on Sunday, as Fabinho, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane were on target for the home side in a pulsating affair.
Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions of England are now nine points behind league leaders Liverpool, with Chelsea and Leicester City eight points respectively in the 2nd and 3rd spot.
With 11 wins out of 12 games in the Premier League, such a commanding lead on the Premier League table by November has led several pundits to believe that the title is now Liverpool’s to lose. However, that may come as an added pressure for the Merseyside outfit and Jurgen Klopp is uncomfortable with such a suggestion but is adamant his team is prepared for the tough tests ahead.
While speaking to reporters after the win over Manchester City, the 52-year-old German explained that his team does not feel any pressure, “We don’t feel any pressure, to be 100 percent honest, the things that will now come up, we know about. If you are with us, then nine points are positive. There’s a long way to go.
Klopp then took a sly dig at the pundits and stated that he does not care about the acquisitions made against his team, “Other people will 100 percent say, and have said already, that from now on Liverpool can only lose it. That’s a very negative approach, but you can see it like this. But we don’t care. I can promise you that we don’t care.”
