Jurgen Klopp pips Hansi Flick to win FIFA best manager honour

Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp was awarded FIFA’s top men’s coach honour during the year-end ceremony held on Thursday, reports from Sky Sports confirmed.

The German manager had been nominated for the Best FIFA award along with Bayern Munich coach Hansi Flick, who led the Bundesliga giants to treble-winning glory last season, and Leeds United boss Marco Bielsa.

Klopp’s scooping of the top award was the 53-year-old’s second in as many years, with the German being honoured last year as well for his contribution towards the Merseyside Reds winning the 2018-19 UEFA Champions League.

Liverpool FC then went on to clinch the Premier League crown after a gap of 30 years, and Klopp’s part in making that happen was recognized by him polling the highest number of votes for the FIFA-given best coach award.

The gaffer was delighted at being named the winner of the award and in an interview to the club’s official website, Liverpoolfc.com, spoke of his team being the key factor behind his success.

“That’s clear – without them I would not be here and we wouldn’t have the success we had and all that stuff. Without the boys, the players, it would not have been possible.”

“A world-class team helps! And I have that, thank God. I work in a sensational club, get all the support you need, have only great people around me. So we come here, even in difficult times, every day with a smile on our face. It all makes it easier and makes it possible.”

“I said a couple of times I’m not the biggest believer in these kind of individual awards for coaches but meanwhile I learned we just take it for all of us. We can obviously not change the world – one face gets the prize but it’s for all of us and I’m really proud of that.”
